In-House Graphics for the Las Vegas NPR Station

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

At Nevada Public Radio, my role was integral in shaping and enhancing the visual identity of both the station and its publication, Desert Companion. Working across various platforms, I provided comprehensive design solutions that spanned digital, print, and physical spaces. My responsibilities were diverse, and they required a strategic approach to ensure that the brand’s visual language remained consistent while adapting to the unique demands of each medium.

I approached each project with a deep understanding of Nevada Public Radio’s mission to inform and engage the community. This understanding guided my design choices, allowing me to create compelling visuals that resonated with the station’s audience. My focus was on balancing the station’s established identity with the flexibility to introduce fresh, modern aesthetics that would engage new and existing audiences alike.

Enhancing User Engagement and Digital Experience

In the digital space, I focused on delivering an intuitive and visually engaging user experience for knpr.org and desertcompanion.com. My goal was to increase user interaction, ensure seamless navigation, and drive audience engagement with the station through consistent branding and accessible design.

  • Podcast Branding Development: I developed cohesive branding for various podcasts, including logo designs and promotional graphics. These visuals not only captured the essence of each show but also helped establish a recognizable identity that resonated with listeners, enhancing audience engagement.

  • Digital Ads: I designed eye-catching digital advertisements for social media and website promotions, ensuring that they aligned with the station’s branding. These ads effectively drove traffic to podcasts and events, increasing visibility and participation.

  • Website Improvements: I implemented strategic updates to the website, such as enhancing page load speeds and simplifying navigation. These improvements created a more user-friendly experience, resulting in increased site visits and longer time spent on pages.

  • Data-Driven Design Changes: By analyzing user behavior data, I made informed design decisions that optimized content placement and improved call-to-action effectiveness. These changes led to higher engagement rates and a more responsive user experience.
My work significantly contributed to a more user-friendly and engaging online experience, directly impacting audience retention and interaction with digital content, ultimately driving higher traffic to the websites.

Creating Publications and In-House Print Materials

In addition to designing Desert Companion magazine and newsletter, I took on the responsibility of developing in-house print materials aimed at strengthening donor relationships and engaging with the audience on a personal level. These touchpoints were crucial in reinforcing Nevada Public Radio’s connection with its supporters and the community, so my design approach focused on creating visually appealing and meaningful pieces that communicated the station’s values and gratitude.

  • Donor Touchpoints: I designed print materials specifically for donors, such as thank-you cards, membership packets, and exclusive event invitations. These materials were crafted with a personalized and refined aesthetic to express appreciation and reinforce the value of their support. The impact was evident in the positive feedback from donors, who felt more connected and valued as a result of these thoughtfully designed touchpoints.

  • Fundraising Collateral: For fundraising campaigns, I developed brochures and reports that highlighted the station’s achievements and impact within the community. These pieces not only provided transparency but also strengthened trust and encouraged continued support. By blending compelling visuals with concise, impactful messaging, these materials played a vital role in converting prospects into long-term supporters.

  • Community Engagement: I created promotional flyers, posters, and brochures for events and community outreach programs. These designs were not only informative but also visually captivating, ensuring they stood out in public spaces and effectively communicated event details and NPR’s mission. The cohesive and engaging visuals helped boost participation rates and broaden the station’s reach within the community.
My work on in-house print materials helped Nevada Public Radio connect with its audience and donors in a meaningful way. By creating personalized and brand-aligned designs, I contributed to deeper engagement and loyalty, which translated into increased donor retention and community participation. These efforts also reinforced the station’s visual identity, ensuring a unified look and feel across all print communications, from publications to fundraising initiatives.
