Crafting a Capstone Catalog as Engaging as the Show Itself

CHALLENGE

My team was tasked with creating the 2024 Capstone Exhibition Catalog with the 2024 Capstone branding: Metamorphosis. Metamorphosis took visual cues from grunge, punk, and fine art design to create a fresh take on what a capstone exhibition could look like.

Using the graphic elements provided to us, we needed to create a catalog that highlighted the experience of the students, their work, and most importantly, their capstone projects. Given the unique branding, we wanted to create a unique experience that would set the standard for future UNLV capstone catalogs.

We designed the Metamorphosis catalog to capture the brand’s bold, unfiltered spirit. Our focus was on creating a tactile experience that would engage readers from the moment they picked it up.

Knowing the catalog would be distributed after the capstone exhibition, we saw an opportunity to make it a reflection of the event rather than just a preview. Our goal was to make readers feel as if they were actually at the exhibition.

We carefully considered every aspect of the book’s design – from the paper choice to the layout – to recreate the exhibition’s theme. Through photos, text, and design, we aimed to capture not just the visual elements, but the energy and emotion of the show and the journey it took to get there.

In the end, the catalog became more than just a record of projects. It became an immersive experience that embodied the Metamorphosis brand’s commitment to pushing boundaries and challenging perceptions.
